Mass Framage

I have been doing a little framing for some new and old work. The one is a thank you gift and the three make up my work for a group show of local "artists" from a recent gallery walk.

The one frame on the left has no mat because I miscut the one piece that I had left. I sprayed a board black with an airbrush and then mounted the drawing directly too it. I think that it works alright due to the deckled edges of the heavy paper. A good mat cutter is coming soon. I can feel it.

Unknown Skull

I spent yesterday working for Ted Prescott who is a sculpturist and a newly retired professor from Messiah College (I was lucky enough to be in several of his classes). He gave me a skull from a trip of his that he took to a ranch in Nevada. We were not sure of the animal but Mr. Prescott thinks it might be a dog.

Alan E. Cober collected skulls and used drawings of them in his illustration work which makes me like them a bit more.

I really enjoy working this way. The bottom one is the rough sketch and the middle is a detail of the finished piece. The top is the final.

Gallery Walk 2009

I was able to participate in Harrisburg's Gallery Walk this last Sunday. Steph and I spent 5 hours on a sidewalk talking to the gallery visitors and drawing this.

Etching Again

Since I have been done with school (for now) I have been working on a way to make etchings on zinc at home. It is easier than I imagined it would be. I prefer etching over drypoint and engraving and I certainly prefer working on metal plates over plexiglas. Here is a working proof.

This is sort of a side not but I did heat the plate up with a hairdryer prior to adding the ink and makes spreading and wiping the ink simply awesome.

Not Drawing From Life

I struggle with settling down in an area and drawing exactly what I see. I realize that part of the problem is that I mostly enjoy drawing people the ones that are alive tend to not hold still.
