Jason Mitchell spoke this morning on how we ought to be comforting those in pain by following Jesus Christ's example. The best approach: skip the cliche remarks and sage advice and just be there with the person that is in pain. The idea is based on the Jewish practice of Shiva which was silently sitting with those who mourn. It seems to make a lot of sense; I never know what to say to someone that is mourning anyway but I don't mind offering support in silence.

Jason Mitchell is the junior high pastor (and often teaches during the main service) at LCBC and his sermons have improved remarkably over the past couple of years. Not that he started off too shabby but he seems really comfortable on stage these days and that seems to translate to some great sermonating.
I am not sure this actually looks like him at all. Crud.
