Editorial Cartoon

This is a cartoon for Messiah College's newspaper. We have a common chapel every Tuesday. This last Tuesday the speaker asked that we turn off our cell phones (and any other potential distraction). While I do not think it is polite to do work during chapel (which does happen, laptops, text books etc.) but I don't think that should be the focus. When students think that it is a waste of time they will not pay attention and this should be addressed. Speak (and get speakers) that can speak to students and they will listen.

This is the second of two cartoons submitted this week. One was rejected. You can see both at the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists website.

I went to an old time village and they told us about WAAAAAAAAY back in the day when the barn loft was in use...the pastor used to have about a 15 foot pole...one end had a feather and the other had a dull metal hook...this was meant to help keep the youngsters in line since they were the primary loft sitters...strangely enough the feather looked pristine but the hook was well worn...I guess it might have helped with the one lad that fell asleep and out of the third story window when Paul preached well in to the night...me thinks our attention span has decreased so much that Paul might not have made it but about 45 minutes before folks would start with the texting...and I'm going to step out on a limb and say that isn't a positive progression...
